How much space do you need to live? The tiny house movement has received much attention recently. Many people are interested in living in homes that are less than 1000 square feet, and some even in houses smaller than 100 square feet.
There are some obvious benefits to this. You will significantly lower your utility bills, and you will be able to spend your money on amenities rather than unused space. Upkeep and cleaning will require less time, thus giving you more free time. It also drastically decreases your impact on the environment.
Of course there are downsides. You will not have as much room for guests, can’t fit as much furniture in your home, and if you have a family, you will lose some of your personal space.
To make the transition easier, many start by getting rid of things they do not need. The truth is, most of us hold onto things that aren’t necessary. If you have duplicate items that serve the same purpose, why not get rid of one of them? If you haven’t used an appliance for a year or so, you probably don’t need it.
